Yanni’s Casual Greek

Well, I never made it to the Texas Ranch Steakhouse, I only heard a few good things when they first opened, and then nothing really good. I guess it never caught on, and about a month ago the Texas Ranch sign was gone and a sign for Yanni’s Casual Greek appeared. Before we moved to the area, we had a great greek restaurant near our house, and it was always a pleasurable experience to go to Aesops Tables, good food, good prices and good service, and it was one of the things we missed from home.

Driving by on regular basis, it was always impressive to see the number of cars in the parking lot, and asking friends and neighbors had they tried it, with enthusiastic replies of YES it is great. We had it on the top of our list of places to try, and Saturday we had the opportunity to give it a try.

We were lucky and barely beat the rush, and we were seated right away, in a booth that still had the friendly’s feel… I really don’t care about decor in a restaurant anyway. The menu has a good selection that should make just about anyone happy. The service could have been just a little better, but it was very busy, and I can handle that….

I had the pork chops, and I highly recommend them…

As good or better then the $30 pork chop I had in a fancy restaurant in Philadelphia…

Most entries range in the $10 to $20 range and everything we saw going by looked good.

If I were to change anything it would be to give Pita and Tzatziki instead of the usual french bread.

Go there you will like it…

You lose some

And hopefully you win some…
Recently Charro Grille closed, to avoid losing out to the cookie cutter wing place going in right next door, I’ve been to the one over by best buy and it is not so great, cold food warm beer etc… And a while back Cantina Lago Mar closed (I was not a big fan) and now I see a new place opens in it’s place Frankies ribs or BBQ not quite sure only caught it real quick while driving by…
Let’s hope Charro Grille finds a new location near by (they said that was the plan), and that Frankies will be a good place to dine…

Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat

You know how it feels when you’re really hungry

On October 31st, students from Kellam High School will be collecting nonperishable food in your neighborhood for the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia. The Student Food Drive is a nationwide community service project sponsored by Tyson’s. Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat (TOTS-EAT) is a nationwide community service project of the International Thespian Society, a student honor society division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the professional association for theatre education.

During the time kids are collecting candy, our students will be around to pick up food for the less fortunate. Thousands of students across the U.S. are working together to try and collect 250,000 pounds of food this year. All donations help people locally. We hope you’ll be able to contribute to our donation total. In the past three years, Kellam students have collected 6,678 pounds (2005), 10,526 pounds (2006), and 14,821 pounds (2007) of food.

Thank you in advance for helping us to make a difference in our community

If you would like to participate in this canned food drive, please place the cans out on your porch by 6:00 p.m. on October 31st. You can also drop off cans at Kellam (2323 Holland Rd) between October 29th and November 3rd. Any questions, call Mrs. Smith at 648-5400, ext. 59138.

Texas Ranch Steakhouse

Drove by the other day and noticed that the Texas Ranch Steakhouse has opened. I have not had the chance(been out of town and busy) to eat there yet, but if you have drop me a line, and let me know how it was.
The parking lot looks like it is pretty full most times I go by….
